Challenges of Nkhata Bay –
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, whose people are suffering from famine, drought, extreme poverty and diseases such as cholera, malaria and aids. Nkhata Bay is touched by all of these conditions. The average life expectancy is 36 years.
The rural poor in Nkhata Bay face few job opportunities, illiteracy, poor agricultural productivity and a lack of basic health services. The average person in this area is living on less than $1.00 per day and in some cases less that $10.00 per year.
